This is strictly my opinion, but the best part of McDonald’s breakfast is the hash brown patties. What about you? I can skip the McGriddle or the bagel sandwiches, just load up my bag with those greasy, crispy hash browns! If you are looking to make hash brown patties at home, this is the recipe for you. This recipe for crispy frozen hash brown patties in air fryer is ready in minutes and absolutely delicious.

How To Make Frozen Hash Browns In Air Fryer?

This recipe is for frozen patties of hash browns not frozen shredded hash browns or breakfast potatoes. The cooking process for shredded potatoes, hash browns, or breakfast potatoes will vary.

As with most frozen foods made in the air fryer, you should lay the frozen hash brown patties in air fryer basket in a single layer. For the best results, do not overlap the patties in the basket of your air fryer so they can evenly crispy all all sides.

You will not need any oil spray for this recipe.

Set your air fryer to 400 degrees and 8 minutes. Because of the different air fryer models and the different brands of frozen hash brown patties, I highly recommend checking on the patties as they cook. You may notice they are getting brown quite quickly and will need to be flipped sooner.

After four minutes, flip the hash browns using plastic tongs and cook the remaining time.

Sprinkle with garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Again, place the shredded potato in the bottom of your air fryer basket in a short, thin layer. If you have a smaller air fryer, you may need to make several batches.

Air fry at 400 degrees f for 10 minutes. Serve the prepared hash browns.

Sometimes when using your air fryer to make a recipe for the first time, it can be trial and error. These tips will help you make the perfect air fryer frozen hash brown patties.

  • Depending on the air fryer you have as well as the brand of hash browns, the cooking time for this recipe may vary. If your air fryer preheats automatically, you should adjust the time cook time by 1-2 minutes. I highly recommend checking on your hash browns as they cook to make sure they are not overdone.
  • You should not thaw your hash brown patties before putting in your air fryer oven.  Freezing helps release moisture out of the potatoes making it easier to make them crispy and not soggy.
  • Place your frozen patties in the air fryer in a single layer. The results will be a crispy texture with a soft center.
  • Use plastic utensils when flipping and remove your prepared hash browns. This will prevent you from scratching the non-stick coating in your air fryer basket.
  • You can prepare these crispy potatoes in your conventional oven, toaster oven, or even a frying pan. The best way I have found to prepare them is in an air fryer. The hot air requires no additional oil.
