Instant Pot Italian Beef Sandwiches

If you are looking for an incredibly easy yet super flavorful week night meal the whole family will enjoy, look no further. Add this recipe for Instant Pot Italian Beef Sandwiches to your meal rotation. You will not be disappointed.

I am constantly on the hunt for a new and exciting meal to serve my family. As the mother, I am always the one who gets to decide each week’s menu and to be honest, I am sick of pretty much everything. While scrolling through Tik Tok, I saw @cheysingh make a version of these Italian Beef Sandwiches using her crockpot. I have adapted the recipe to use an Instant Pot or any brand pressure cooker.

I have the Ninja Foodi 9 in 1 and I use this appliance to make most of my weeknight meals. It is extremely to use, the clean up is easy, and the meal is ready in a matter of minutes.

Instant Pot Italian Beef Sandwiches Recipe

This recipe is super simple to make using an electric pressure cooker. I did use my oven to crisp my sub rolls before putting the meat in and then to melt the cheese on top.

Step one:

Place the beef cut of your choosing into the instant pot.

You may choose a beef roast, pot roast, rump roast, top round roast, or even a chuck roast. I chose to use Beef Eye of Round Thin Cut. This was the cheapest beef when ordering my groceries from Walmart this week. I mean, have you all seen the price of beef right now? It is crazy high. You will need at least a pound of beef to make several sandwiches depending on the size of the sub rolls you choose. This is already cut into thin slices so it is easy to use in the pressure cooker. If you choose a roast, I recommend cutting the large pieces of meat into slices or cubing it first.

I used one pound of eye of round but you can use any beef cut you choose to make Italian Beef Sandwiches

Step 4:

Add garlic powder. I used my heart when sprinkling this in but I would say about 1/2 -1 teaspoon.

The same for Italian seasoning. I used my heart but at least a teaspoon.

Step 6:

Add 1/2 cup of sliced banana peppers.

Add 1/2 cup of Banana Pepper rings

Step 7:

If you have the Ninja Foodi 9 in 1 like I do, you will need the pressure cooking lid for this recipe. If you have the instant pot or other brand of pressure cooker, set the device to high pressure. Make sure the valve is set to seal. You will pressure cook the meat for 25 minutes so the meat is tender.

Step 8:

While your beef is pressure cooking, I recommend toasting your sub rolls.

What sub rolls are best for this recipe? You should use hoagie rolls, crusty rolls, or a soft yet flaky italian roll for these sandwiches. I choose smaller rollers but any side will do.

I used the oven to toast my sub rolls but you could use a Ninja Foodi air fryer or a toaster oven if you have it. Set the oven to 350 degrees. Place your open sub rolls on a cookie sheet. I lined mine with a silicone sheet but this is not necessary. It does make for an easy clean up. The bread will be golden brown in about 5-10 minutes

Remove from the oven, however do not turn your oven off. You will need it again!

Step 9:

After 25 minutes of cook time, quick release the pressure by moving the value from seal to vent. When all of the steam has escaped, remove the lid. Remove the beef and shred into smaller pieces. The beef will be fork tender and should fall apart without the use of a knife.

You can choose to natural release your steam. To do this, reduce the pressure cooking time by about 5 minutes. Do not move the value from seal to vent and let it naturally release the steam on its own.

Shred the beef

Step 10:

Add the shredded beef to your toasted sub rolls. I used small sub rolls (3-4 inches in length). I was able to make 8 small sub rolls. If you choose larger sub rolls, you may only be able to make 2-3 subs with this recipe.

Step 11:

Top each sub with the cheese of your choice. I used provolone.

A sub without cheese is like a hug without a squeeze

Step 12:

Place the subs back into the preheated oven at 350 degrees for another 3-5 minutes until the cheese is melted to your liking.

Sides To Serve With Instant Pot Italian Beef Sandwiches

This main dish can be served with any side of your choosing. Some of my favorite sides for these Instant Pot Italian Beef Sandwiches are a simple side salad, french fries, or even tater tots. You could also serve it with potato salad or a creamy pasta salad.

If you are searching for a low carb option, pour the juicy beef over cauliflower rice. The tender beef has tons of flavor!
