The world’s only underground zip line is located in Louisville, Kentucky at the Louisville Mega Caverns. I would highly recommend this exhilarating experience through an underground limestone quarry beneath a large portion of the city of Louisville.

Attractions
Louisville Mega Caverns offers several tour options. The attraction is located beneath the surface where the weather is always perfect and the temperature is always cool. The attraction options include:
- Mega Zips: a 2.5 hour zip lining tour through this man made cavern to include education on the geology and history of the caverns. It features six zip lines and two challenge bridges
- Mega Quest: the only underground aerial ropes and challenge course
- Mega Tram: Learn about the history of the cavern to include how it was made and the current use of the 17 miles of corridors beneath the surface of Louisville.
- Mega Bike: an underground bike park featuring 320,000 square feet of trails, jumps, and tracks.
- Electric Bike Tour: Explore the cavern on an electric bike in this 1.5 hour guided tour.
During the Christmas Season, Louisville Mega Cavern also hosts Lights Under Louisville where you can drive your own vehicle to view the only underground holiday light show in the world.
Mega Zips
We visited Louisville Mega Cavern in February. It was snowing outside, but within the cave the weather was about 50-60 degrees. Make sure you bundle up for the tour especially if you are from Florida as we are. It was definitely nippy underground and when zip lining there is an additional breeze!
You may book a time for your zip lining tour on the Mega Cavern website or you can choose a time when you arrive. Tours book quickly, so I would recommend checking online first.
You will meet with your guide approximately 10 minutes prior to your tour time. A waiver releasing the Mega Cavern from liability was required for all parties with parents required to sign the waiver for their minor child. The tour guides will outfit you with a harness and helmet. The helmet has a light on the front as in many cases there is little light within the cavern.
Once assigned a group, two tour guides will accompany you for zip lining. The guides give specific instructions as well as a “test” zip before heading to the larger zip lines stretching over open caverns.
What Should I Know Before I Go?
My son was eleven and he was permitted to zip line on his own. We have zip lined in other locations to include Costa Rica where he was not permitted to go on his own because he would have to brake himself to stop. Unlike our past experiences, you did not have to brake yourself on these zip lines because the guides would catch you or there was a breaking system on the zip lines when traveling at a higher speed.

There were several children on our tour that were younger than my son and they easily zip lined on their own. You must be at least 7 years old and weigh between 55 and 285 lbs to do this attraction. Anyone under the age of 15 must be accompanied by an adult 18 or older.
What Was Our Favorite Part?
Our favorite zip line was the Zip Line to Hell. It was located in an extremely dark area that was lit only as if the ground was burning. Why was it our favorite? It was lengthy where you could build up speed and the darkness made it a bit scary at the same time. The name was perfect for this awesome zip line!
We also enjoyed racing each other. This was one of the last zip lines where you could race your family side by side.

This is not a cave per se. It is a man-made cave because it was used as a limestone mining quarry. It was then further leveled and the park was added.

After I read your title, the world’s only underground zip lining tour, I was sold! However, I noticed there was more than just the zip lining – mega quest, mega tram, mega bike, and electric bike tour. It looks like that’s an ultimate trip for an outdoorsy person.

Yes, there is more to do than zip lining. The best part is because it is all underground, the weather outside will not affect your adventure. The cavern stays about 50-60 degrees.

If you have the time do all of it, why not? We did the Mega Tram and Mega Zips. If you are doing the Mega Zips, there is no real reason to do the Mega Tram ride as much that was discussed in that tour is discussed by your guides while participating in the zips.
