Do you need an affordable family-friendly getaway near Walt Disney World and the major Kissimmee/Orlando attractions? Here are five reasons to book a room at the Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Suites and Water Park for your next vacation.
1. Conveniently located
The Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Suites and Water Park is conveniently located in Kissimmee, Florida right off I-4 outside the entrance to Walt Disney World. Formerly the Nickolodeon Hotel, it became the Holiday Inn in 2016 after undergoing a $30 million remodel.
2. All rooms are suites
The hotel is an all-suite resort. The three star hotel is not the Ritz Carlton, but the newly remodel suites are very nice. The outside walkways of the hotel appear to be a bit run down, however the amenities offered at the hotel outnumber the flaws.
We booked a family suite. This includes a living room area with table and two chairs, a large screen television, a kitchenette area with a small fridge and microwave. There was a bedroom with a king bed. In a separate room with no door was a set of bunk beds that had a television. The toiletries in the standard bathroom were from Bath and Body Works.
3. The Water Park
Water Park access for all parties in your room in included with payment of the nightly resort fee of $33.75. If you have a large family, this can turn into quite a bargain. We had two adults and 4 children in our room and all persons had access to the water park.
The water park kept the kids busy. It was located near the Lagoon Pool and within an enclosed fence that surrounded both areas. If your kids are old enough, they can definitely be left to utilize this whole area without having to keep a close eye on them. There are lifeguards on duty in the Lagoon Pool as well as several on and within the water park.
There are a multitude of slides. Some are geared for younger children. There are buckets dropping water as well as water guns the children can spray each other with.
4. Keep your kids busy
There is a host of activities to keep your children busy during your stay. A weekly schedule is provided upon check in to include activities at the Lagoon Pool.
In addition to the activities at the pool, there are also shows and activities throughout the day. These include shows from Gatorland theme park, family trivia, magic shows, etc.
On the weekends, at 5:00 p.m., the large bucket at the top of the water park fills with blue water and dumps on everyone. This is called the Big Wave.
For an additional cost, you can purchase wristbands for a 4D movie theater as well as a Bank Heist Laser Maze. If you are going to stay at the property for several days, there is an unlimited pass that allows your kids to enjoy both of these options for your entire stay. The cost was $19.95 per person.
Each evening there is a movie that plays at the Lagoon Pool on a large screen. The pool stays open until 10 p.m. The night we stayed, they play the Storks.
5. Kids 12 and Under Eat Free
Kids 12 and under eat free in the Lakeside Cafe for breakfast and dinner with one paying adult. This can work to your advantage if you have several children. The breakfast buffet costs $14.95 an adult and the dinner buffet is $18.95, however if you have multiple children this can work to your benefit. The kids not only eat free, but they also get a free drink with refills.
There was a large variety of food options. On the dinner buffet there was a salad bar, a carving station, rolls with butter, several pasta dishes, and several meat options. In addition, there was an extensive assortment of desserts.
Additional information on the property
As mentioned above, there is a $33.75 a night resort fee that covers many of hotels amenities and activities. In addition, they charge $15.97 for parking per night. The resort also provides:
- a shuttle to the theme parks at specific times.
- complimentary WiFi throughout the hotel.
- There are several restaurants on property in addition to the above mentioned Lakeside Cafe. They are all located in the food court area and include a taco/mexican cafe, a pizza/italian cafe, an ice cream shop, a candy shop, and a Subway.
- There are several bars on property. One bar at each pool as well as the Hideaway Lounge. Cocktails at the bars cost between $8-$10.
- Also, there are two gift shops. I would recommend trying to bring grocery items with you or stop at a local grocer as the options are limited for purchase at the resort.
Summary
Holiday Inn Resort Orlando Suites and Waterpark is a family-friendly, affordable hotel located near the major theme parks of Orlando. Providing a plethora of activities to keep your child busy, this resort is perfect for traveling households. It is a casual atmosphere where parents and children alike can relax and have fun together.
Though the resort is only rated at 3.5 stars by reviewers on TripAdvisor, I found it to be a great option that provided an abundance of value for the price. I would definitely stay here again in the near future.
