Four Reasons to Book A Nocturnal Walking Tour With Your Child

The Nocturnal Walking Tour was epic! Check out the four reasons to choose a nocturnal walking tour with your child in Costa Rica.

Here are my top four reasons to do a Nocturnal Walking Tour with your child if visiting Costa Rica. This optional tour was not included in our original package but was definitely a highlight. In my previous posts, I discussed how we decided on using EcoTerra Costa Rica.I used this tour company for our trip to Costa Rica. The all-inclusive tour company provided hotel, several meals, tours, as well as all transportation around the country. Our first stop on the tour was La Fortuna where our hotel was the family friendly Casa Luna Hotel and Spa (You can read my review of this property here).

Reason 1: The cost was reasonable

The tour cost $65 and included a tour bus that picked us up at the hotel. The tour guide spoke perfect English. As discussed in my previous post, the tour buses provided by EcoTerra Costa Rica tour company are very comfortable, provide more than adequate space, and offer WiFi and air conditioning. Though there may be a few other people who have booked the tour at the same time as you did, the tours almost seem as if they were private. During this tour, we were accompanied by a few other travelers on this tour, but the bus was not crowded.

Reason 2: Wildlife

Even from the tour van, the tour guide spotted a sloth in a tree. We stopped and using his binoculars, we were able to get a great look as well as a wonderful photos of this leisurely moving creature.

Look at this face!

The bus ride took about 30-minutes to drive us to the town of La Tigra. There we met the Mendez Family at their home. The tour took place on their property. This Traditional Costa Rican family lives off the land and dedicates part of their property for the natural regeneration of plants and animals.

We walked through a frog sanctuary, where natural regeneration and reproduction of these species occurs. My son really enjoyed this tour. Hunting frogs and lizards with only a flashlight was a big thrill!

Here are some photos from our nocturnal tour:

Bullfrog
Blue Jeans frog
Jesus Lizard–named because it can walk on top of the water.

Reason 3: Dinner was included

After seeing several species of frogs and lizards, we enjoyed a delicious traditional Costa Rican dinner of bean soup, chicken, and rice. The meal concluded with a delicious dessert.

My son is far from a picky eater. He tends to enjoy all food. I know, I am lucky! We all enjoyed the food.

Dinner was served outside on the Mendez’s back patio/deck area where we overlooked small pools and the gorgeous moon.

Reason 4: Ease of booking the tour

As I stated in my previous post, the EcoTerra Tour office is located on the grounds of the Casa Luna Hotel where were staying. If we had wished to book the tour upon our arrival, the tour company would have been on sight for us to do so. We booked this ahead of time. We purchased a Groupon for this trip. Yes, a Groupon! (check out the blog post on how to go about booking this tour on Groupon). Upon purchasing the Groupon, we contacted the tour company to book the trip. EcoTerra Costa Rica representative, Yessenia Herrera, helped us to make all the arrangements to include sending a list and description of additional tours that were available to add to our itinerary. We simply told her which day and which tours we wanted to add to our trip. It was that easy!

These are our reasons you should definitely consider a Nocturnal Walking Tour with your child. It was an amazing experience.
