Social Distancing Vacation In A Florida Vacation Rental

Vacation in 2020 looks a bit different. With most states only recently reopening due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of our planned trips have been cancelled . Instead, this summer, we have been doing social distancing vacations and day trips from our home base in Florida as most of Florida has reopened.

If you have read any of my previous articles, you know my husband and I do not give our son physical gifts but instead we give the gift of experiences. Brady’s 12th birthday and Christmas trips were both cancelled due to COVID-19. This year, Brady turned 13. For these reasons, we may have gone a bit overboard in planning two incredible Florida vacations to celebrate. Both trips were planned to emphasize family time together and social distancing!

Can you vacation during the COVID-19 pandemic?

Though much of the tourism industry in Florida has reopened, we have been concerned about vacations that involve traveling by air or large crowds. While embracing social distancing, I strive to plan a clean and safe, yet unique and adventurous experience.

Early in August we glamped on a houseboat. Located in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico, the houseboat was definitely distanced from the crowds of Clearwater Beach.

Renting Twelve Parsecs gave us a themed house in which our family could join us but still keep our distance from others. We had everything we needed without having to leave the house. The house is so huge the adults could social distance from the kids!

Star Wars Vacation

My son, Brady, and my husband, Rian are both avid Star Wars fans. Together, they watch every movie multiple times waiting patiently as each new movie is released. They then return to the theater multiple times to watch it again.

Jedi X-wing Fighters and Darth Vadar’s Death Star adorn Brady’s bedroom walls. We have Yoda’s voice as our ringtones and every family member owns matching t-shirts bearing Star Wars characters. As a family we were Princess Leia, a Storm Trooper, and Darth Vadar with our dog as Yoda for Halloween. The Star Wars ride is our favorite when visiting Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

So maybe we aren’t as obsessed with Star Wars as some families, but we are pretty close to neurotic. Having cancelled our trip to Galaxy Edge at Disneyland California due to COVID-19, renting the Florida vacation rental, Twelve Parsecs, was the perfect Star Wars birthday gift for a new teen!

Twelve Parsecs AirBnB

Han Solo claimed his Millennium Falcon “made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs“.  The Twelve Parsecs AirBnB looks like a normal home from the outside. Though two stories, it appears small. With a very small yard, short driveway, and unassuming exterior, you would never guess the enormity until you open the front door.

Owned and managed by Loma Homes, this property is nothing short of magical. Transport yourself to another dimension as you enter. Each bedroom is decorated with scenes or planets directly from a Star Wars movie. The pictures do not do it justice.

The artistic detail is nothing short of what you will see at Disney. The intricate detail of the bedding and painted walls provide the illusion of sleeping with Yoda in the swamps of Dagabah. Many of the rooms include lighting or smoke features that create an ambiance of being directly on the Planet of Hoth or as if you are floating in Cloud City.

Though the summer heat may feel as if you are in the volcanic world of Mustafar, the private swimming pool will quick cool you off!

Included with your rental, you will have access to the Championsgate clubhouse, pool, lazy river, and slide. The clubhouse requires you to check in with a mask to enter the pool area. The lounge chairs were spaced 6 feet apart. The day we visited there were very few people in the morning getting more crowded in the afternoon.

The Star Wars Experience

From Darth Vadar themed pillows on the couches to the galactic chandelier, every inch is embellished with a Star Wars motive. Twelve Parsecs is a Star Wars experience. Bring waffle batter and make Millennium Falcon and Death Star waffles for breakfast, battle each other with the light sabers waiting at the front door, or curl up on the couch in a Star Wars themed blanket. Even the bathrooms have themed decor.

A pool table, ping pong table, and bar seating in the air conditioned garage will keep the kids and adults entertained. Play hide and seek and never run out of hiding places. Watch a Star Wars movie or play a Star Wars themed game in the lounge area replicating the movie scene aboard the Millennium Falcon when Chewbacca, R2-D2, and C-3PO are playing a game with small holographic creatures.

Save Money: Choose Loma Homes Instead of the Twelve Parsecs AirBnB or VRBO

Looking to book a Florida vacation rental? You could easily find a great property by using AirBnB or VRBO. Though you can rent Twelve Parsecs through either of these websites, my advice is to use Loma Homes directly. This will save you between $300-$400!

In summary

If you are searching for the perfect Florida vacation rental when visiting Disney’s Galaxy’s Edge, any of the Orlando theme parks, or just to escape life all while social distancing, Twelve Parsecs is an incredible Star Wars experience. The home is large enough to host several families, a reunion, or in our case a birthday to include grandparents and cousins. There is so much to do in the home, you will never need to leave this new and amazing galaxy.
