Newport, Rhode Island is a wonderful place to vacation with your family. We have been visiting Newport for many years as my husband grew up there. As my son has gotten older, our goal is to find new and exciting things to do when we visit. This summer we were lucky enough to do a beach horseback ride with Newport Equestrian Academy. Giddy up!
Why Newport Equestrian Academy?
Located just outside of Newport in Middletown, Rhode Island, Newport Equestrian Academy offers two hour trail rides along the beach. The trail ride includes a guide, instruction so even the most novice ride can feel comfortable, and a beautiful ride along beaches.
First, meet your horse. My son rode Doc. I rode Sonic.

Brady, my son, is eleven. He had ridden a horse a handful of times prior to this experience. He did not feel comfortable riding on a trail ride on his own. No problem! Stacy, our guide, gave him easy to follow instructions on how to ride. We practiced within a closed stable before going out on the trail ride so we all felt comfortable with our horses.

The Beach Horseback Ride
The trail ride was along a paved roadway with local traffic. The horses all stayed in a line along the side of the road. The horses are very docile so there is no fear they would be spooked by a vehicle.
The trail ride led us past the Norman Bird Sanctuary and then Second and Third Beaches. The scenery was beautiful. In the distance, you could see Saint George’s Castle.

Keep in mind
If you book the beach horseback ride during the summer months, you will not be permitted to actually ride the horses on the beaches because of the number of people on the beach. Keep this in mind should you really want to ride on the sand, however the trail ride was still very enjoyable riding near the water.
In addition to the cost for the ride, you are requested to tip your trail guide after the ride.
To book a tour, you must call Newport Equestrian Academy. There is not an online booking option.
In Summary

I would highly recommend a beach horseback ride with Newport Equestrian Academy. The tour was reasonably priced, the horses were wonderful, and the guides will give personal attention to make sure you feel safe. The scenery was gorgeous. Should you take this tour during the summer months where you are not permitted to ride on the beach, riding alongside the ocean was still beautiful.
